PHILOSOPHY RESEARCH INDEX
A New Standard for Bibliographic Research in Philosophy!
The Philosophy Research Index is a new indexing database of bibliographic information on articles, books, reviews, dissertations, and other documents in philosophy. Its mission is to use the best available technology to provide searchable bibliographic coverage of a definable portion of the known philosophical literature in several western languages. Coverage ranges from the year 1400 to the present, with citations of material in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Latin, and other languages. The database currently contains approximately 700,000 citations.
- 360 journals - download the title list
- 183,000 monographs
- 353,000 articles
- 100,000 reviews
- 20,000 dissertations
Coverage of many journals is complete, from volume 1 to the present, regardless of start date. The project aims to extend back issue coverage of each journal in the database. Electronic feeds from major journal publishers have been set up to maintain timely and complete coverage of current issues. We estimate that the database will contain over 750,000 citations by mid 2011.
PRI supports a variety of searching and browsing options, with faceted search results and an integrated time line. Users can save or export citations for later use, and social networking functionality is provided to facilitate information sharing. A translation function is also available to help users combine search results into a single language (English). An extended librarian’s view is available for each citation, and the database is OpenURL ready.
